We should not lose sight of the fact that it is not for an individual to resolve the problem before them by relying on earthly wisdom alone. Our problems can't be solved without God being the Guide. God is the Guide & Comforter. People around us can counsel, guide, advise, dictate, and/or try to impose their opinion on the troubled individual. In the conflation of sound and din it is possible that God's voice is drowned in the sea of voices. We know that it is not possible that God's voice can drown. It is just that in that sea of voices, we will be overwhelmed and will be too confused to isolate/identify God's voice. Among the din of human voices/noises, the devil's voice is also intervened and mixed-up. Since the devil knows God's nature and the way He operates, it is easy for the devil to masquerade his lies/counsel/voice as that of God's. It is important that we hear, observe and take all around noise, counsel and advise. But, we should read & meditate God's word and allow God & Holy Spirit to give the guidance. It is just that, one should hear God's voice and be guided by that.
Psalm 46:10
New King James Version (NKJV)
10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Amplified Bible (AMP)
10 Let be and be still, and know (recognise and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!
It is important that we do all of the below ( some of this will sound to be a strange thing to do, but I will explain them in a short-while)
a) confess and repent to to the other person and God ;
b) forgive and forget;
c) remove the problem/issue out of our mind ;
d) be at peace with the situation/person. Don't blame especially ourselves and more importantly don't blame anyone else and Most Importantly don't blame God ;
e) don't try to do what-if analysis of the future consequences of each and every options before us. In other words, we should not try to look at each possible solutions before us and think of the consequences, pros-cons of each of the possible decisions, on hand.
Initially, some of the above will surely sound strange and contrary to conventional wisdom and popular belief. Also, it sounds contrary to our instincts.
1) Shut-out the problem (About the last 3 thing (c), (d) & (e) first,) :-
The primary reason for this suggestion is that the solutions before us are limited to our present knowledge and human wisdom.
Isaiah 55:8-9
New Living Translation (NLT)
8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
So, if God has another solution which is beyond our human wisdom and present knowledge of the circumstance, the same will be get drowned in all the noise and din of our confused state of mind. Give God a chance to give you the Solution
Philippians 4:7
New King James Version (NKJV)
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7
New Living Translation (NLT)
7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
2) confess and repent to to the other person and God ( i.e. (a) & (b) ) :-
Luke 15:21
New Living Translation (NLT)
21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, .....
Matthew 5:23-24
English Standard Version (ESV)
23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
So, it is important to note that any transgression/sin will offend another person and God. It is written clearly that we should reconcile, confess & repent with other person(s) and God and not just either one of them. And Mathew passage suggests the order/sequence also.
So, if we imagine that we will live with the transgression and reconcile with God and God alone then it is a fallacy and contrary to What is Written.
It matters that we forgive and if required, we need to forgive repeatedly. There is no such thing that there is an ultimatum beyond which there is no forgiveness..
Parable of the Unforgiving Debtor
Parable of the Unforgiving Debtor
Matthew 18:21-22
New Living Translation (NLT)
21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone[a] who sins against me? Seven times?”
22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven![b]
Forgiving is not a matter of personal choice or optional but demanded by God. He says God will not forgive if we don't forgive first. This is very serious business.
Matthew 18:32-35
New Living Translation (NLT)
New Living Translation (NLT)
32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt.
35 “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters[a] from your heart.”
The Model Prayer (Lord's Prayer)
Matthew 6:12
New Living Translation (NLT)
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
Both these passages state clearly that we should forgive and that too first and then seek God's forgiveness
So, it is important
a) that we know What is Written ( i.e. what the Word of God says) ;
b) that we shut out worldly and human and devil's wisdom from our mind ; and
c) to recognise God's Voice and know what He wants for us.
Also,
Romans 8:26-27 [New Living Translation (NLT)]
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers[a] in harmony with God’s own will.
Also,
Proverbs 3:5-8 [New Living Translation (NLT)]
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.
Also,
Matthew 6:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
Finally,
Matthew 6:14-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
I hope this is useful in your lives. I will be very grateful if I get your feedbacks and comments on this.
I have added couple of videos which is a much needed Must Watch on this subject.
